Major traffic delays on the Hume Motorway at Glenfield in Sydney's south-west are expected to stretch throughout the morning following a serious multiple-vehicle accident early on Tuesday.
A truck and three cars were involved in the crash in the city-bound lanes of the motorway, north of the Ingleburn exit, just after 6am, a Transport Management Centre spokesman said.
One person was trapped in a vehicle for more than an hour, before being freed by emergency service workers.
City-bound traffic was banked up for 14 kilometres just after 8am, and conditions were not expected to ease for some time, the spokesman said.
A witness, Paul, told 2GB the crash involved a truck, several cars and a ute, which looked "pretty badly damaged".
Three of four city-bound lanes were initially closed as police and paramedics tried to free the trapped motorist.
By 7am, city-bound traffic was banked up for 10 kilometres, but by 7.30am it had grown to 13 kilometres, extending to 14 kilometres at 8am.
"Traffic is now queued past Narellan Road," the spokesman said.
"We initially had three lanes blocked. All city-bound lanes are now reopened, but we're still a long way from seeing this clear."
Buses travelling through Glenfield are being delayed up to 20 minutes, he said.
