Macarthur schools lead effort to help fight

A RECORD number of local school teams are lining up to join the 24 Hour Fight Against Cancer on October 20.

Sixteen teams have already registered, or are preparing to register.

Once again, our Catholic schools are leading the way with previous participants John Therry and Mount Carmel high schools and St Patrick's College hard at work raising funds.

Students and/or teachers from St Thomas More, Ruse, St John the Evangelist, Campbelltown, Holy Family, Ingleburn and Our Lady Help of Christians, Rosemeadow, are also gathering support.

St Peter's Anglican School and Broughton Anglican College are fielding teams, as is Beverley Park School.

Other strong contingents are expected to hit the track from another four public high schools — Leumeah, Airds, Eagle Vale and Campbelltown Performing Arts, not to mention Ingleburn and Rosemeadow public schools.

Kirsten Little, captain of the Campbelltown Performing Arts High School team, has been to the event three times before.

"There's such an amazing atmosphere and everyone bands together with the same objective to raise money to support cancer patients in our area," she said.

■Any schools still planning to join the Fight can contact Dave Eckford on 0439 702 501 to register their team.
