CHOOSING window coverings isn't always as simple as choosing a colour and a style.
Window coverings can also have practical applications for keeping out heat and noise.
GuardRight owner Craig Gee said plantation shutters were still the most requested window furnishing, followed by roller blinds and verticals.
"Roller shutters are by far the most popular product due to offering security and heat and cold reduction, and they also aid in noise control," he said.
"GuardRight supplies aluminium louvres and plantation shutters that are lockable from the inside, which offer security and elegance at the same time, making them ideal for the front of the home."
There are many plantation shutter products on the market today and Mr Gee said many paint finishes contained toxins, so it was essential to see a certificate of compliance.
"Many timber shutters are laminated finger-jointed timbers which won't stand the test of time. Ensure your choice is a solid product and not a laminated veneer.
"Roller shutters are also confusing as there are many companies offering many products. Ensure you're buying an Australian-made product with good-quality accessories as some imported products aren't as reliable for our harsh Australian environment."
