SITTING in a swanky restaurant surrounded by mood lighting and beautiful coloured up-lighting, I thought to myself, how great would this be at home? Lighting hues can create whatever effect you desire.
Green can be relaxing, red can be romantic or you could even combine a few colours and create your own perfect scheme.
Philips Hue is an app which allows homeowners to remotely control lighting using a smart device.
Jeroen de Waal, head of marketing and strategy at Philips Lighting, said the energy-saving LED light allowed you to tune shades of white light or create any colour.
"Philips Hue is a game changer in lighting - a completely new way to experience and interact with light," he said.
"In the way phones, media and entertainment have been revolutionised by digital technology, now we can also personalise light and enjoy limitless applications."
The app can also save lighting scenes for specific rooms or times of the day, tune white light to the intensity you desire, control lights remotely for security and help to complement decor or atmosphere.
Lighting hues can also be a useful interior design tool. Minimalist designs may benefit from a pop of colour or, like the swanky restaurant I visited, the coloured lighting could help to create a chic, futuristic feel.
Hues can also be useful for creating atmosphere. At bedtime hues can be dimmed and in the morning bright colours might just be the perfect morning pick-me-up — alongside coffee, of course.
