Dear Wests Tigers board members,
Why don't you just stand on top of the Scenic Hills, pull your pants down and show your backside to every Macarthur-based Wests Tigers fan.
Hell, your decision to base the club out of Liverpool is just as insulting to Macarthur fans — even if it's slightly less abrasive.
Throughout the club's short 16-year history I have considered myself one of the more diplomatic fans.
Not any more.
If you want to move to Liverpool then that's the final straw — the one that really will break the camel's back.
The club's decision to base itself out of Concord Oval — the traditional territory of the Balmain Tigers — instead of Campbelltown — the home of the Western Suburbs Magpies — was seen as a snub by many Macarthur-based fans when the joint venture formed in 1999.
I was more understanding, believing for stability reasons the club had to be based out of one facility, not two, and if that was Concord Oval, so be it.
When the club announced recently that it would relocate from the Concord facility, I was ignorantly optimistic that they might finally call Campbelltown home.
Campbelltown Council and Macarthur MP Russell Matheson had publicly stated their intentions to establish a sports centre of excellence at the UWS's Campbelltown campus.
Both parties tried desperately to entice the club to set up shop there — but to no avail.
Last week club chairperson Marina Go told a rival Sydney newspaper that the club would relocate to Carnes Hill if the Wests Tigers/Liverpool Council proposal was successful. Two days later the club tried to backtrack saying no final decision had been made.
But worst of all, it may be too late to save the club from the wrath of Macarthur-based fans.
We are a loyal bunch but loyalty only stretches so far — and so do the boundaries you can claim to represent.
Yours sincerely, Ben.
