The director of the family-run company Blue Lagoon Bathrooms at Castle Hill, Joubert Esber, said it was important to choose professionals to renovate bathrooms.
"First and foremost, you're covered if anything goes wrong," he said.
"Because bathrooms are a wet area, water damage is a common fault when done by cowboys in the industry."
Mr Esber said it was important to ensure any tradespeople were fully insured, fully licensed and offered warranty to avoid headaches.
"Always ask if they are licensed and if the tradesmen are qualified and experienced," he said.
