Waratahs flyer and Wallabies debutant Taqele Naiyaravoro has told how he is 'still buzzing' after having been selected in Wallabies coach Michael Cheika's spring tour squad.
Naiyaravoro, who played 20 games for the Waratahs this Super Rugby season, scoring nine tries, described how happy he was to get the call up into the extended 40 man squad.
"Mate I'm just still buzzing, I'm so happy, obviously I want to thank the Lord for this opportunity, I still haven't settled down." he said.
"(It means) everything, I'm not expecting anything, I'm just trying to get into the squad and trying to make the World Cup squad is what I'm aiming to do now."
The Fijian born winger played rugby league up until early last year, but made the switch to union in an attempt to gain more playing time. Naiyaravoro made his first appearance for the Waratahs in May last year before nailing down a spot on the wing with a number of powerful running displays.
Despite being in line to make his Wallabies debut, Naiyaravoro played down his chances of making the team, understanding the challenges he faces ahead in overcoming the more established names in the squad.
"There are a lot of quality wingers in the squad as well and they've had more Test caps than me so it's going to be hard work for me but I'm just looking forward to trying get in."
"(I need to) Just put in (in) every segment, in both attack and defence, just got to put more of an input into both of them."
Naiyaravoro had been rumoured to have signed a three year deal in Scotland with Pro12 team Glasgow Warriors. All that could change, said Naiyaravoro, if he did indeed make his debut for the Wallabies during their upcoming tour.
"I will have to now that I've been selected for the train on squad, I'm trying to get my residency here as well and this decision isn't just for me but also for my family as well."
If Naiyaravoro were to make the World Cup squad he could potentially line up against his home nation Fiji, a prospect that the 195cm winger would relish if it were to eventuate.
"It would be a great experience, a big test for me... I think it's there for them (his family) to decide. If that happens, I'll probably do my best for whoever I'm playing for at the moment."
