HOW many of us have sat in our favourite cafe and admired the vibrant yet homely atmosphere and wished our kitchen had the same sense of style?
Well, with a bit of creative thinking, it is possible to get a cafe-style kitchen.
Cafe themed art such as ‘‘EAT’’ or ‘‘COFFEE’’ word art, light signs or wall decals are an easy place to start.
You can display mugs for decoration or go one better by creating an entire wall with shelves lined with mugs.
Install a curtain rod over the window and hang short cafe or burlap curtains using clip rings.
Or create a comfy space by installing bench seating with cushions in an unused corner behind a small table.
And then, of course, comes the all-important coffee machine.
George Liakatos, head of sales with JURA Australia Espresso, says coffee machine ownership has surged in the past three years.

If you’re renovating, consider a built-in barista station including a coffee machine and custom shelving to accommodate mugs, coffee, teas, sugar and cutlery.
Or convert an old-style hutch to do the same thing, if you have the room.
