FIREFIGHTERS are making the most of this week's mild weather conditions and carrying out large hazard reduction burns at Holsworthy Military Base.
Today's planned burns will cover 300 hectares and smoke is expected to drift over Glenfield, Macquarie Fields, Long Point and Ingleburn.
NSW Rural Fire Service Macarthur Zone Superintendent Jason Heffernan said:
“These burns are part of the overall strategic bushfire management plan for Holsworthy, and provides great strategic fire advantage zone to local residents.''
Residents are advised to only ring triple-O if they actually see fire as opposed to just smoke in their vicinity.
Community Information points have been established at Macquarie Fields Shopping Centre and Wattle Grove Shopping Centre for local residents to find out more information about the Hazard Reductions.
