Champion New Zealand pacer Christen Me will attempt to join the immortal Preux Chevalier by completing Australia harness racing's grand slam in the next month.
Christen Me holds the Miracle Mile, Hunter Cup and Victoria Cup after a dominant display at Melton on Saturday night and trainer Cran Dalgety has him on target for March's InterDominion at Menangle. Star driver Dexter Dunn led all the way on Christen Me in Saturday's Victoria Cup and he is an odds-on favourite to make it back-to-back Hunter Cups at Melton next weekend.
Only Preux Chevalier has held the four major Australian harness races at the same time in 1984-85 and Christen Me has a great chance to join him.
"I would have never guessed Preux Chevalier as the horse to have done it," Dalgety said. "It is a very tough group of races to win and we are meeting a really bunch horse every time we go round.
"He actually surprised me on Saturday with what he did [leading so easily] and he is definitely at the top of his game.
"We want to defend the Hunter Cup. He showed how tough he was last year when he sat on and won.
"He has it all speed as well if we want to use it, which makes him an exciting horse to train."
Christen Me is the $4 favourite for the InterDominion Final on March 1 and will have to qualify for it at Menangle on February 14.
