A CROWD of about 10,000 attended the eighth annual Rathmines Catalina Festival at Rathmines Park on Saturday.
It was the first festival co-ordinated by Ian Mackey, of Cre8ing Growth, and Christoff Gremm, of Grimmel, in co-operation with the Rathmines Catalina Memorial Park Association.
Mr Gremm said that despite the new team’s short lead time into this year’s festival, the event was a success, and raised about $20,000.
‘‘We wanted to consolidate and just give people a great festival,’’ Mr Gremm said.
‘‘Planning has already started on next year’s festival, and there are some interesting new attractions in the pipeline.’’
Funds from the festival will be spent on restoring a PBY Catalina, built in 1941, to be used in a static display in a hangar the association hopes to build as a museum at Rathmines.
