A MAN will face court in September after a Newcastle police officer was injured in an alleged pursuit.
Police patrolling Tinonee Road at Waratah about 3.30am noticed a man riding a mountain bike without lighting and reflective gear.
The officers attempted to stop the rider, who allegedly rode off into a laneway before fleeing on foot.
Police gave chase and allege the man threw a torch at one officer while running, hitting him in the neck.
The man was arrested a short distance away following an alleged scuffle.
The Waratah man, 33, was charged with assault police, resist arrest, ride bicycle furiously, ride bicycle in dark without visible front white light and goods in custody.
He was granted conditional bail and will face Newcastle Local Court on September 24.
