IT WAS a game the Wests Tigers might not have won last year.
Down 10 points in the second half, the Wests Tigers showed the determination that has come to define their 2014 season and pulled off a 22-20 victory over the Cronulla Sharks on Saturday at Remondis Stadium.
The 10-8 score line in favour of our team at half-time didn't reflect the fact the Wests Tigers dominated most of the first 40 minutes.
But two quick tries to the Sharks after half-time did reflect the ebb of intensity and defence from the visitors.
To their credit, the Wests Tigers answered quickly.
Within 10 minutes of allowing the Sharks to take the lead, the Tigers turned on their attacking prowess.
Cory Paterson and Chris Lawrence crossed for two similar tries that exploited gaping holes in the Sharks' defence.
The reliable boot of Pat Richards resulted in conversions to both tries, giving the visitors a two-point lead they would hold on to until the final siren.
■ This week, the sixth-placed Wests Tigers take on the Brisbane Broncos, who are 11th on the ladder.
The Broncos have scored 216 points this season and have conceded only 180 points.
On the other hand, the Wests Tigers have scored 214 and conceded 226 points.
It's obvious both teams can attack and score.
So it stands to reason the team that masters their defensive plays at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Saturday night will secure the much-needed two competition points.
