A spokeswoman from the NSW Rural Fire Service has confirmed that a house in Marsden Park has been destroyed by the fire in Western Sydney.
“One home has been destroyed in Charles Street, Marsden Park,'' she said.
More than 70 firefighters are working to protect properties in Marsden Park after a grass fire swept through 120 hectares of land near Grange Avenue.
The fire has crossed Garfield Road.
The spokeswoman said 30 fire crews were working to contain the area.
‘‘Protecting against loss of property and minimising destruction caused by the fire are the priorities at the moment.’’
There are currently 95 firefighters working to contain the fire on Richmond Road, which has threatened properties in Bligh Park, Windsor Downs and along George Street.
The RFS spokeswoman said the fire was burning under strong northerly winds, and heading south.
She said smoke had impacted the Richmond RAAF base, and staff and students at the University of Western Sydney’s Richmond campus had chosen to leave, though the campus had not been officially evacuated.
