Wests Tigers face Souths

13 May, 2009 10:19 AM
WESTS Tigers tackle Souths in the NRL Heritage Round 10 clash at Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday at 3pm.

As part of the Heritage Round celebrations, former players from Balmain's 1969 premiership-winning team which defeated Souths 11-2, are attending.

This year is the 40th anniversary of Balmain's upset 1969 grand final win. Tigers will be without centre Chris Lawrence who has ankle ligament injuries.

He withdrew from the City Origin side which defeated Country Origin 40-18 at Orange on Friday.

Tigers skipper Robbie Farah and prop Keith Galloway were outstanding for City Origin and furthered their NSW State of Origin selection claims for the opening game on June 3 in Melbourne.

Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens had his debut as Australian coach when the Kangaroos beat New Zealand 38-10 at Suncorp Stadium on Friday. Tigers Benji Marshall skippered the Kiwis for the first time and Dene Halatau was a late call-up for suspended hooker Isaac Luke.
