HIGH-PROFILE footballer Lote Tuqiri is poised to sign with Wests Tigers for the next two years.
If he decides to put pen to paper, he returns to rugby league after seven years in rugby union.
The former Broncos, Queensland and Australian star has held talks with the Tigers recently and the club is confident it will gain his signature.
While Tigers officials are tightlipped about his return, Tuqiri, is anticipated to sign a two-year deal after he left Australian rugby union in controversial circumstances.
The Australian Rugby Union sacked the glamour star after he had played seven years for the Queensland Reds, the NSW Waratahs and 67 Tests for the Wallabies.
Tuqiri played 99 games for the Broncos between 1999-2002 before switching to rugby union for big money.
Reasons for Tuqiri's sacking were kept confidential and through his lawyers he took the ARU to court and gained a confidential financial settlement.
The 30-year-old and his management met with Tigers' coach Tim Sheens recently to discuss the move.
There are also other rugby union offers from overseas but it is understood the lure to play in the NRL and for Queensland again in State of Origin appeals to the flying winger.
Tuqiri is also keen to play fullback at the Tigers but it's likely he will be eased back as a winger before a shift to the No.1 jersey.
In other news, the Tigers will resume training for 2010, on Monday, November 9.
Former Roosters and Eels' prop Jason Cayless and former Tigers' prop Jeff Lima, now with the Melbourne Storm could also head to Tigers next year. Tigers' hooker and skipper Robbie Farah will play for the Kangaroos in the Four Nations tournament in England starting October 24. Tim Sheens is the Kangaroos' coach and Tigers' five-eighth Benji Marshall is Kiwi's skipper.
