GRAND final day left an empty feeling for Wests Tigers and fans.
Their Toyota Cup team, coached by Grant Jones, lost 24-22 in controversial circumstances to Melbourne Storm.
In the 74th minute, Storm fullback Grant Widdop followed through a grubber kick to score a try awarded by the referee much to the dismay of the Tigers players.
Replays on the screen at ANZ Stadium showed he didn't ground the ball clearly with his hand. Widdop converted his own try giving the Storm a 24-22 lead, the final scoreline.
At the post-match press conference when quizzed should the video referee be used in grand finals for the Toyota Cup, Jones believed it's time to use the technology.
``They (the two officials) are five metres away from it, you don't need a video referee for that,'' Jones said.
``But, if it means the difference between winning a premiership and losing one, the answer is yes.''
Tigers skipper Darren Nicholls said the decision was shattering.
``A few of the boys who were around the ball said it was a knock-on and when we the saw the replays, it was bit disheartening,'' he said.
Tigers fullback Jake Mullaney had an outstanding game scoring two tries.
In the NSW Cup decider, Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers were thrashed 32-0 by Bankstown City Bulls the feeder club for the Bulldogs.
