THE South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS) 15's netball squad recently took their first step into top-level competition, competing over two days at the Netball NSW 15 Years Development Weekend.
Netball NSW developed the competition last year to select the best athletes from each association for the Netball NSW 15 Years Talented Athlete Camp.
Academy netball players Tayla Kay, Emilee Lang, Brooke Lawrence, Courtney Morretti and Tarrantina Tuliloa, gained selection in the program.
There were 40 places available with 13 regional academies and metropolitan teams competing and 130 girls vying for selection.
SWSAS head coach Joanne Morgan was impressed with the way the team stepped up to the challenge and showed continual improvement over the two day competition.
``The team really found it tough in the first few games as the playing standard was exceptionally high, however as the competition progressed the team started to really improve and develop and to have five athletes selected in the squad is a great achievement,'' Morgan said.
