LOCAL karate students have kicked and punched their way to medal-winning performances in the Goju Karate Do Tournament series 2008.
Students from Rosemeadow and St Helens Park Dojo Goju Ryu Seiwakais recently battled their opponents at the tournament which took place at Penrith PCYC.
Rosemeadow instructor Kylie Stephenson was pleased with her students' results.
She believes their dedication and commitment paid off with their great performances.
Rosemeadow students who placed at the tournament included:
1st: Patrick Francis - Junior Kyu Kata; 2nd: Addison Gleeson - Junior Kyu Kata; 3rd: Brooke-Ashlee Smith - Junior Kyu Kata and 3rd: Tayla Wilson - under-8 years Kumita.
Stephenson said the results just kept improving at the dojo. ``Also, big news is that one of our students, Stephan Skerra, has graded and just received his black belt,'' she said.
``Stephan has been with us since he was about eight years old and he is now 18. ``It's great that he has just finished his HSC and still had time to train and grade for his 1st Dan Black belt.'' St Helens Park students who placed at the Penrith tournament included: 1st: Aryan Williams - under-13 years female kumita; 1st: Madoc Williams - under-13 years male kumite; 2nd: Celtie Williams - under-10 years female kumite and 2nd: Steven Boulais - Kobudo (weapons).
