ERIN Densham will carry the hopes of Macarthur to the Beijing Olympics.
The Ruse resident, who will celebrate her 23rd birthday on Saturday, visited Wests Leagues Club last week to thank her sponsor for the help which has enabled her to train at an elite level.
She said she was shocked and relieved when she was notified of her selection for the Australian team.
"It's not really sunk in yet and I don't think it will until I'm actually there," she said.
In a strict training regime, Densham will prepare for the Olympic Games with some races in France, before heading to Madrid, Spain to compete in a World Cup race.
Then she will fly to Canada for the triathlon's world championships in June.
Although there has been much speculation about possible pollution problems she might have to overcome during the triathlon race in China, Densham remains unperturbed.
"My main goal is the Olympics," she said.
"I did an an asthma test in Melbourne and I was all-clear. "I'm not worried about the smog. Everyone will be in the same situation and we can't do anything about it."
With her strongest leg in the run, Densham is concentrating on improving her swimming.
She is confident she can bring a medal back to Macarthur if she gets off to a good start in the triathlon.
Aiming to be in the front group during the swimming leg, Densham could excite her supporters if she hits the front before she jumps on the bike.
"There are three medals there and I'd like one of them. You just don't know what can happen in the triathlon so I'm definitely in with a chance. As long as I give it my best and give it my all. I don't want to come away thinking `if only I'd put in a little bit extra'."
Wests Leagues Club general manager Tony Mathew said Densham has kept the club informed of her progress.
"We'll all be watching Erin on TV at the Olympics with a passion," he said.
Densham thanked Wests and all the goodwill messages she has received from her friends and family.
"I know my run is right up there and I'll go hard to the finish," she said.
