TWO local Australian rules footballers have been selected in the GWS Giants Academy squad after the under 18s AFL Joss State Zone trials at Coffs Harbour.
Taran Etto (Macarthur Gardens) and Cameron Gordon (Leumeah) gained selection through their impressive form over the three day carnival.
The boys who played their junior footy with South Campbelltown Kangaroos and Campbelltown Swans, were part of the successful Western Sydney Giants zone that won four of their six games.
Giants academy manager Lachlan Buszard said the standard of football had risen across the zone.
"Impressively, the Western Sydney Zone has 11 players selected, which is a great sign of the improvement in that region," he said.
The Giants Academy nurtures young talent aged between 14 and 18 years throughout NSW, ACT and the Northern Territory, as well as develop the skills that could see young players recruited in the AFL draft in the future.
The Giants Academy squad will take on the Sydney Swans Academy in a series of matches throughout the year.
The series acts as the main selection trial for the NSW/ACT Rams side which will compete in the under 18 AFL national championships.
