HAVE you heard the one about the Swedish bloke with a German-sounding name who's a huge cricket fan and wears a turban?
Well, it's no joke, Herman Lotey, of Glenfield, is the man described above.
The 21-year-old loves cricket so much that he has established what he believes to be the first Twenty/20 competition in the Campbelltown area.
Lotey, born in Sweden to Indian parents, has called Australia home for 16 years.
He is excited about the inaugural cricket competition which will start on June 27.
Naming the tournament the Herman Premier League (HPL), Lotey said the competition, which will include two groups of four teams, would ``provide all the glitz and glamour that Twenty/20 has to offer''.
``I just love the game and I was watching the Indian Premier League when I had the idea to do it here,'' Lotey said.
``I've had a good response and have eight teams, half of them come from outside the area.
``The top two teams will go into a semi-final and the competition is short and sweet so it'll be over in five or six weeks.
``It's a good warm-up and practice for the normal cricket season.''
Starting his cricket career with the juniors at Ingleburn, Lotey is now a Macquarie Fields Cricket Club second grader.
Prizemoney for the HPL winning team is $2000 and the leading wicket taker and run scorer will each win $125.
Lotey is seeking sponsors to help fund the tournament.
All matches will be played at Ingleburn Memorial Park 2.
