ONE-TIME leg-spin bowler and apprentice baker Ben Halliday is on the rise at representative level.
Halliday, 18, of Eagle Vale, is a former Campbelltown District Cricket Association player.
He now plays for the Fairfield Liverpool Cricket Association Telegraph Shield under 23 men’s team.
And the all-rounder puts down when he had a shoulder injury as the pivotal moment in his sport.
‘‘I bowled leg spin but dislocated my shoulder fielding a few years ago,’’ Halliday said.
‘‘It was much the same as when Shane Warne dislocated his shoulder a few years ago at the MCG.
‘‘I hit the ground fielding and my shoulder just popped out.
‘‘After I recovered I became a fast bowler because bowling leg spin would have caused me too many shoulder problems.’’
The switch from spinner to quickman has worked with the teenager an integral member of the FLCA representative team.
While the team lost the final to Camden, Halliday had an outstanding season.
This season Halliday blossomed taking 13 wickets at an average of 12 in the Telegraph Shield team, finishing ninth overall from 79 bowlers in the competition.
Halliday could play for the FLCA Durham Shield under-19 team but wanted to play with wicket-keeper/batsman and brother Matt in the Telegraph Shield team.
‘‘I had never played in a team with my brother before so this was my chance,’’ Halliday said.
Halliday said playing grade cricket has always been an ambition.
