BRADBURY cricketer Jaydyn Simmons is the youngest player selected in the Australian 16-and-under indoor cricket team.
The 14-year-old caught the selectors’ attention when he was playing for the NSW Under-14 team at an indoor tournament at Perth earlier this year.
The 16-and-under team will compete in this year’s Indoor Cricket World Cup in Queensland from October 11.
Jaydyn is the only 14-year-old in the squad, which will play in the new age group category at the world cup event.
Jaydyn’s mother Kerrie-Ann said her son, a St Gregory’s College student, was eager to help his team take out the cup for his age group.
‘‘He’s been playing since he was seven years old,’’ Kerrie-Ann said.
‘‘Jaydyn’s an all-rounder really but is a bit better at bowling and he’s a very good fielder at indoor.
‘‘He’s very excited to have been picked for the under-16 team.
‘‘He recently got fitted out for the suit and said he felt like a professional.’’
Other teams competing in the indoor world cup include England, South Africa, New Zealand, Wales, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Jaydyn will also play the outdoor version of cricket this summer.
He will play for Campbelltown City under-15s in the junior competition and for Ingleburn second grade in the senior competition.
