MACARTHUR athletes experienced success at last week's World Masters Games track and field events at Sydney.
Mark Johnston won a bronze medal in the M55 Category of the discus with a throw of 35.84 metres and Lisa Mumberson also won bronze in the W40 of the hammer throw with 30.60m.
Veteran Raby athlete Albert Gay added another gold medal in his final event at the World Masters Games, to the set of gold, silver and bronze he had won earlier in the week.
The 67-year-old was especially pleased to cap off the Games with a win in the 300 metres hurdle race running 53.74 seconds.
Gay's two gold medals won't remain in his possession for long.
``I'm glad I got the two golds as I have two grandsons and they both wanted one, so it will save the arguments,'' Gay said with a laugh.
``It was a good race; I had planned to run economically into the finishing straight and then finish off the last two hurdles fast and that is just how it eventuated.
``Coming into the straight, two Canadians were ahead of me, but I put my foot down and the old body responded and I went past them.''
The first pole vault event set the scene for the week for Gay, as he not only won gold, but produced a state record-breaking jump of 2.9m in doing so.
He won bronze in the long jump and silver in the pentathlon event.
``The meet was truly international, I shared the pole vault podium with a Canadian and a German, the long jump with a Swiss and an American, the pentathlon with a Japanese and a Hungarian and the 300m with two Canadians,'' Gay said.
