DRIVING to Campbelltown railway station will soon become less of a headache now the State Government has said it will lend Campbelltown Council a loan to pay for the extension of Farrow Road.
State Planning Minister Tony Kelly announced the $5.7million interest-free loan at the site on Thursday.
With him were Campbelltown MP Graham West, Camden MP Geoff Corrigan and Campbelltown Deputy Mayor Mollie Thomas.
The work, which is expected to begin in June, should ease traffic congestion on the busy western side of the station and save commuters time.
Campbelltown Council's director of city works, John Hely, said the new road would save travelling time of from five to eight minutes.
Mr West said the road extension was great news for local residents as well as for Camden commuters.
He said the station had the largest parking.
``It makes sense that people from Camden want to come to this station,'' he said.
Mr Kelly said the interest-free loan, one of 37 recently awarded by the State Government, would ensure the road's quick completion.
``Projects are expected to be completed within 18 months of the loan being issued and the loan repaid within 10 years,'' he said.
