THE Mary Brooksbank School P&C Association plans to appeal against the final selection of schools for a national low socio-economic funding program.
In August, the Advertiser reported that the special-needs school at Rosemeadow was left off the draft plan of the School Communities National Partnership program, along with Airds High, Claymore Public and Sarah Redfern schools.
But Werriwa MP Chris Hayes (Labor), who was unhappy with the initial plan, recently announced seven more local schools had been selected for the funding.
They are Airds High, Blairmount Public, Campbellfield Public, Claymore Public, Glenfield Park, James Meehan and Sarah Redfern schools.
They will get funding for a varying number of years until 2015 under the $1.5million Federal Government program.
Mary Brooksbank's P&C secretary Tia Cavarra said it was ``ludicrous'' the school had again not been selected. ``How much more needy do our kids need to be?'' she asked.
``Our students and their families are already facing a multitude of challenges on a daily basis. We should not be focussing our attention on fighting with bureaucracy.''
The National Partnerships website shows that schools were selected through a process that included diagnostic assessments of their communities and based on student addresses or school locations.
Mrs Cavarra said it seemed special-needs schools were being overlooked but Glenfield Park School, now included, caters for children who have severe emotional or behavioural disorders and learning difficulties.
``My biggest concern is that if the purpose of this is to identify the students in schools with the highest needs we, definitely, obviously, fit that criteria,'' she said.
``We're actually going to look at ways into an appeal process.''
Mr Hayes was pleased the extra schools had been selected.
``After learning that many of the schools in the most disadvantaged areas of my electorate had been omitted from the preliminary list, I immediately lobbied the Federal Minister for Education, Deputy Prime Minister Julie Gillard, to rectify this obvious error,'' he said.
