Police charge taxi driver for kidnapping

30 Jul, 2010 08:58 AM
Police have arrested and charged a Sydney taxi driver over the kidnapping of a passenger.

Just before 2am on Sunday 25 July, the 20-year-old victim caught a taxi from King Street Wharf in the Sydney C.B.D. and asked to be driven to Lane Cove.

After crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, it’s alleged the passenger vomited out a window of the cab.

It’s further alleged the 33-year-old driver demanded the passenger pay the fare and a clean-up fee.

An argument followed and the taxi driver allegedly drove the victim to an address in Macquarie Fields.

Police allege the taxi driver’s wife and elderly parents got into the taxi and struck the passenger, demanding money.

After handing over an amount of cash, the passenger was allegedly freed on Oxford Road at Ingleburn.

The man alerted police who arrested the taxi driver this afternoon at his Macquarie Fields home.

He was taken to the Macquarie Fields Police Station and charged with detain for advantage.

The driver was released on bail, ordered to face the Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday 25 August.
