Police are back in the zone

27 Jan, 2010 09:19 AM
SCHOOL zone speed limits are back in force today.

Parents, guardians and other motorists are reminded to comply with the 40km/h speed limit and parking restrictions.

Police and Campbelltown Council rangers will conduct regular patrols around school zones and enforce these regulations.

Mayor Aaron Rule said ensuring the safety of children was a priority.

``The new school year is always a busy time on our roads, so please take extra care,'' he said.

Speeding in a school zone can result in a maximum penalty of $2868 and loss of seven demerit points.

A ``No Stopping'' sign means no one can stop at any point on the road or kerb, unless there is a medical reason or emergency. Failure to comply could result in a maximum penalty of $338 and the loss of two demerit points.

A full list of penalties and offences is available on rta.nsw.gov.au
