Nicola Roxon visited Campbelltown Hospital on Thursday and announced $3 million for a new MRI machine.
She also announced a further $21,000 for equipment such as a mechanical ventilator, bladder scanner and trauma beds.
This equipment is being funded under the Gillard Labor Government's $250 million capital funding to improve emergency department facilities and $200 million flexible funding for emergency departments, elective surgery and sub-acute care.
This is in addition to the 20 new acute beds announced by the government last month, including the first oncology beds ever for Campbelltown Hospital.
The Commonwealth and NSW Governments will also jointly fund a new $1 million Urgent Care Centre at Campbelltown Hospital.
This centre will mainly treat patients with minor injuries or illness, such as fevers, upper respiratory tract infections, sprains and strains and simple fractures.
This service is separate from the Emergency Department, thus freeing up Emergency Department staff to treat more seriously ill patients that require emergency care.
''We are making these investments because we know that the people of Western Sydney need better hospital services, especially in their emergency departments,'' Ms Roxon said.
''On my last visit, local candidate Nick Bleasdale made it clear to me that the Macarthur area needs more resources for its local hospitals.
''He even ran a petition calling for an MRI machine at Campbelltown Hospital.''
