AMAZINGLY, WorkCover said it had received just one complaint in recent years about Minto Mall and that was about asbestos.
The Advertiser has been deluged with community complaints about the mall's state in recent weeks, ranging from leaking roofs to poorly working air-conditioning and sewage problems.
A WorkCover spokeswoman said most problems the mall's patrons have described could also be considered public-liability matters, which are handled by local councils.
Problems reported to Campbelltown Council this year included overgrown vegetation, rubbish strewn around the premises, a missing floor tile at an entrance that was covered by a mat, toilets in poor condition, a lack of rubbish bins, and cockroaches.
Last week, Mayor Russell Matheson called the mall ``disgraceful'' and on the front page of the Advertiser called on its owners to sell it and let someone else manage it ``properly''.
Campbelltown councillor Bob Thompson walked through the centre with concerned patrons this week. He said he was shocked by the mall's condition.
``The gutters are blocked, there are holes where trees have been removed it's disgraceful,'' he said.
``I don't know what the owner is thinking, taking money for rent and giving nothing in return.
``I think a proper audit needs to be done. It used to be such a beautiful shopping centre. Now it's full of $2 shops.''
The mall is managed by KAPB Group, which has an office at St Leonards and names Helen James as its director and general manager.
The Advertiser called KAPB but was told each time that Ms James wasn't there.
Staff answered most questions with ``I don't know'' and said they didn't have Ms James' mobile number.
The Advertiser emailed Ms James a list of questions about the mall and requested a meeting last week. There was no response before we went to press.
