WHEN Varroville's Jacqui Seconi got emails from livestock owners in flood-ravaged Queensland begging for help, her heart almost broke.
Her thoughts then turned to what she could do to help.
Mrs Seconi — who runs the online equine website Sydney Horse and Pony Directory — has joined with Wilton's Kim Hollingsworth and Harness Breeders NSW and NSW Harness Racing to organise for stock feed and other animal supplies to be collected and sent to desperate animal owners up north.
And they are only one example of the many local residents who have rallied to help as people organise fund-raising barbecues and concerts, or made generous donations to the relief effort.
Members of the local police force, emergency services and even sporting stars have also travelled north.
One of the Queenslanders to get in touch with Mrs Seconi was Sue Isherwood, administrator of the online Gold Coast Horse Directory.
"We are in the grip of terrible floods at the moment — 75 per cent of Queensland is flooded," Ms Isherwood wrote. "Many people have lost their homes, their stock and their livelihood."
"All our hay growing areas will have had their crops destroyed and we will be very short on stock feed."
Mrs Seconi said many horses had been badly injured by wire fencing in the floods and did not have access to food and shelter.
"I have spoken to the Queensland Horse Council and they are expecting to have hay shortages for about a month at this stage," she said.
"We want the community to come on board and donate goods, money or time to help if they can."
