OUT West Fight Club boxer Danilo Lerio recently punched his way to an Australasian title.
The Filipino-born fighter beat Thai opponent Nuapayak Sakkriprin by a technical knockout to win the International Boxing Federation Australasian Flyweight
title.
Lerio, a southpaw, had the fight under control and was ahead on points when the doctor stepped in to stop the fight in the 11th of the 12 scheduled rounds.
Under the guidance of his trainer Todd Makelim, the
27-year-old southpaw pleased his followers with his punching prowess during his bout at Sweeney’s, Scenic Hills.
Based at Eschol Park, Lerio could go on to bigger title fights if Makelim’s plans come to fruition.
‘‘He was in a tough fight against the boxer from Thailand but he did very well,’’ Makelim said.
‘‘Danilo is really a world-class boxer. We’re trying to get him an elimination world-title fight before the end of the year.’’
Makelim is preparing Lerio for the elimination fight, which he hopes to set up in late November.
