How does your school rate on My School?

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF WWW.MYSCHOOL.EDU.AU?

The Federal Government's new My School website went live this morning (Thursday), providing parents with information about how their child's school is performing.

The website shows a school's results in national testing for the areas of reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation and numeracy.

Launching the new online resource with Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, and NSW Minister for Education Verity Firth at Tempe High School, Premier Kristina Keneally said:“This is information parents have been telling us they want more of – not less”.

“For the first time, parents will have access to information about their child’s school academic results, its student population, attendance rates and Year 12 completion,” Ms Keneally said.

“It’s a new era of transparency which will help us better identify schools that are underperforming to ensure all of our students are receiving the education they deserve.”

Minister for Education, Verity Firth, said the My School website was one of a range of resources available to parents to help them understand how their child and school are performing.

“The website will provide a link to the school’s annual report and parents can also gain information by meeting with the principal, through parent teacher meetings and by talking to people in their community,” Ms Firth said.

“But it’s important that parents have access to accurate information and national literacy and numeracy tests are providing us with a level of data that’s never been available before.

“Greater transparency will allow us to lift the quality of school education for every child in every school by helping us to identify underperforming schools and better target our resources.”
