CYCLISTS are looking forward to new bike tracks being built in the area.
The council is planning a kilometre-long triathlon track at Macquarie Fields and new bike path links and parking in Campbelltown CBD.
Paul Hillbrick, owner of Hillbrick Bicycles in Minto, said the cycleways would play an important role in getting many people active who wouldn't want to ride on roads including children.
``If children grow up riding on cycleways with their mum and dad then, by the time they're old enough to ride on roads, they can be safe about it,'' he said.
``With my children I go over to Camden where the cycle path is along the river.
``I know it's helped them a lot with their confidence and their balance.''
Local cycleways also helped Mr Hillbrick get his fitness back when he hadn't ridden for a while.
``You've also got a lot of people who aren't confident enough to go out on the road and this means they can get some exercise.''
Mr Hillbrick said the council should be planning for the future now by putting in more cycleways.
He said those working in busy places such as the city were already using them to get to work.
``What councils out here are doing is smart as far as long-term strategic planning.''
Campbellto wn Council is building the tracks with the $350,000 they will receive from the Rudd government as part of the National Bike Paths Fund.
