Two men were expected to appear in court today after an attempted armed robbery at a hotel in Appin this morning (Monday).
Police will allege at 2am today two men, armed with knives and metal poles, entered the hotel on Appin Road while a third man waited in a vehicle out front.
They forced entry, put some cash into a bag and attempted to push a woman and the hotel licensee into a freezer.
The licensee resisted and an altercation ensued. He was allegedly stabbed in the arms and head. The two men also received significant injuries during the fight.
The men left without the bag of cash and the third man allegedly drove the vehicle into the front door of the hotel.
A concerned neighbour call triple zero during the incident.
Police attended and stopped the vehicle a short distance from the hotel.
The driver and one of the men were arrested at the scene. The third man escaped on foot through a nearby paddock. Police and dog squad personnel searched the area without success.
The licensee and woman were taken to Liverpool Hospital. The licensee, aged 41 from Appin, suffered stab wounds and cuts to his arms, head and face. The Appin woman suffered a facial injury.
The 20-year-old Auburn man was treated by ambulance officers at the scene and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.
He was charged with robbery in company with wounding and refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today.

At 4.30am Camden police were called to the Menangle and Maldon areas regarding a man allegedly committing break, enter and steal offences and stealing from cars in the area.
Police attended and arrested a man who had a number of injuries and is believed to be the third man involved in the attempted armed robbery. He has head injuries and is currently under police guard in hospital.
Inquiries are continuing.
