400 new homes to be built in Minto

11 Nov, 2009 08:43 AM
ALMOST 400 new homes are to be built in Minto as part of the Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan.

Housing Minister Tanya Plibersek and Werriwa MP Chris Hayes (pictured) announced the plans last week with NSW Housing Minister David Borger.

The trio inspected Stage 2 homes being built in the Minto redevelopment.

Mr Hayes said most of the 15 homes announced in June in Stage1 were already under construction and the second stage would deliver an extra 383 homes.

``This will continue to support local jobs in the construction industry as demand in the private sector begins to pick up during the recovery,'' he said.

``Importantly, this work is not just about jobs for builders and tradies but also associated industries such as manufacturers and suppliers who help keep the economy ticking over.

``Additionally, there's also the important social benefit of providing more affordable housing.''

About $10.5million has been allocated to upgrade or repair 2067 public houses across the area.
