A CAMPBELLTOWN rock group and a Camden singer have been selected to go to China to compete in the Asia-Pacific version of Eurovision.
The Rock Chicks and James Cassar will go to the World Star Quest in Beijing early next year.
James Cassar, who goes to Campbelltown Performing Arts High School, said he was going over for the sheer experience.
``I've been out of Australia once, but that was on a cruise, so that doesn't count,'' he said.
He started singing when he was six or seven after seeing his aunt's students in eisteddfods and talent quests.
He will perform a song written for him by Allan Caswell called One Good Reason.
``It's an uptown, poppy kind of song,'' he said. ``I do more your Josh Groban classical music usually.
``It's a nice change to go over to China to perform a pop song. It's a little bit different.''
Aimee Hannan of the Rock Chicks who sing '50s/'60s rock'n'roll said the girls had been friends for a long time.
``Basically we've got four girls up there who just love doing what we do and love making other people happy,'' she said.
Aimee Hannan started singing when she was four and said it was exciting to get to a stage where the band was getting a following of fans.
Creation TV, which selected the artists, has organised a fund-raising event. This will be held on Sunday, November 1, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm at Campbelltown Performing Arts High School. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 18 and are available from the school. For details, call Omana on 0422290118.
