CAMPBELLTOWN teenagers will be shown morphing into their favourite celebrities outside the Campbelltown Arts Centre this month.
Perth-based artist Minaxi May's Morphology is the fourth exhibition in the Illume: Projections After Dark series, where video art is projected on to the outside of the centre after 8o'clock each night.
``It's based on an old work that I did where I morphed myself with four celebrities: Michael Jackson, Elvis, Bjork and Madonna. That exhibition was all about merchandising and the idea that we look to celebrities,'' May said.
``We approached some schools in the area and the Campbelltown Performing Arts High School came on board and the teacher got together some students. I asked them to choose a celebrity they admired.''
May then took photographs of the 24 students and digitally blended them with that of their favourite celebrities, including Hillary Duff and Glen McGrath.
``When you're a teenager you're going through lots of changes and you're not always satisfied with yourself and as a culture we look to celebrities,'' May said.
``But it was interesting that you always notice the celebrity in the show because their face is familiar whereas most people won't know the students because they're an everyday person and sometimes it's hard to see them in it.''
